Alfonso J. Teta, a lifelong resident of the Capital District, passed on peacefully to his eternal rest at
Montrose State Veterans Home on 16 September 2025 after a brief illness at the age of 89.
He was a graduate and loyal alumnus of LaSalle Institute in Troy, New York. After graduation, he
entered Saint Joseph’s Normal Institute in Barrytown, New York for teacher training as a novitiate of
the Christian Brothers. Mr. Teta left the order and entered military service in 1958. He proudly
served his country for two years of active duty in the United States Army, attaining the rank of
Specialist. This included a year of overseas service defending the Republic of Korea following the
ceasefire on the Korean Peninsula. After his return home to Troy, Mr Teta was employed for over
four decades in the men’s clothing business, while enjoying his free time cooking, traveling, and
enjoying life with his large extended family.
He was the son of the late Alfonso M. And Margaret Dillon Teta; devoted brother to the late
Dorothea Teta Kruegler; Rocco Teta; Joanna Teta Kondziola; Patrick Teta; Paul Teta; Lucia Teta
[Decker] Adams; Margaret Teta [White] Mozgawa; and proud uncle to three generations of nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 14th at 9:30 am in Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church,
28 State Street, Troy, New York. A private family burial will take place at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Troy immediately following the funeral.
The family of Mr Teta would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the New York State
Veterans Home at Montrose and to Calvary Hospice.
