Barbara Ann Mamone (Vardine)
June 17, 1941 – June 17, 2025
Barbara Ann Mamone, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at home in Troy, NY on June 17, 2025 — her 84th birthday and the day she and her husband, Charles Angelo Mamone, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. She joins her late daughter, Elise Ann Mamone, and her late brother, Vince Vardine, in heaven.
Born in Schenectady, NY, Barbara was a lifelong entrepreneur and businesswoman. Alongside her devoted husband, she owned and operated Barley's Surfside Market and Deli in Hampton Beach, and later BA's Uptown Deli and Lunch in Albany, NY. Known for her hard work, warmth, and generosity, Barbara touched the lives of countless customers, neighbors, and friends.
Barbara’s dedication to her community was matched only by her passion for helping others. A longtime member of The Ladies of Charity in Troy, she also founded The Backpack Program for Children in Need at Rensselaer Park School — a legacy of care that will continue to benefit local families for years to come.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles; her children, Koni Valenti (Gary) and Chuck Mamone (Valerie); her grandchildren, Gary Michael, Emily, Nicholas, Alicia, Connor, Gianna, Juliana, Gennaro, and Ava; and her great-grandson, Brody. Also, her niece Vonnie (Neil) McCauliffe and their children Lilianna and Luke, her nephew John Vardine, and niece Alexandra Downen. Barbara was the heart and soul of her family — a true provider, nurturer, and guiding light. Her absence leaves an unfillable space in their lives, and her memory will be forever cherished.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Church in Troy, NY on Tuesday, June 24th. The viewing will be from 9-11am, followed immediately by mass to celebrate Barbara's life. From there, she'll be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to her heart.
Barbara’s legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in all who knew her.
