Bernadette Curran Obituary

Bernadette DeLourdes (Foley) Curran, 84, of Troy, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 22, 2025. She was the daughter of the late George E. and Ida Mae (Hennessey) Foley. She is predeceased by her husband, Stephen M. Curran, her sister, Mary Daveda Teta, her brother, George Foley, her sons, David (Karen) Fumarola and Michael Fumarola, and her ex-husband and best friend, Vincent P. Fumarola. Bernadette is survived by her loving children Christopher Fumarola, Jeffrey (Kara) Fumarola, Susan (Charlie) Denue, Daniel (Jodie) Fumarola, Erin (Eric) Adams, and Kelly (Pete) Melaragno. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Fumarola-Higgins, Lauren Fumarola, Melissa (Vicki) Kelts-Martin, Matthew (Kera) Kelts, David, Ryan, and Dylan Fumarola, Jake, Margaret, and Vincent Adams, Jeffrey Fumarola, Anna Salerno, Abagail, Nicholas and Stephen Melaragno, and Kiara Fumarola. She also is survived by several great-grandchildren as well as her stepchildren, Colleen (Gary) Zebrowski, Maureen (Ken) Bonesteel, Stephanie (Kevin) Mannis, Erin Sherman, and Stephen (Terry) Curran. Bernie’s life was defined by her deep love for her family and faith. Her children were her greatest joy, and they remained the heart of her world throughout her life. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Troy. Professionally, Bernie enjoyed a fulfilling career as a certified Medical Assistant, providing compassionate care to many over the years. However, it was her time as a beloved teacher at CCHS that truly captured her heart and made a lasting impact. Known for her warmth and humor, Bernie became a favorite among students and faculty alike. She often said, "Being a mother was my vocation and working was my avocation." Notably, it was Bernie’s sense of humor that left those who knew her with fond memories of laughter and light-hearted moments. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Bernie was a published writer, sharing her unique voice with others. Her words, like her life, were a reflection of a deep passion for her Irish heritage. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Bernie during her time there. A special thank you goes to Ebony, whose kindness and dedication brought comfort to Bernie and her family, and for that we are truly grateful. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church, in Troy, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at The Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, Wednesday morning, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
