Brian Jude "Big Bri" Guynup

Brian Jude “Big Bri” Guynup, 65, of Troy, New York, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving Wife and children. He was born on October 4, 1960, in Albany, New York. Brian was also a dedicated Lab Technician at the University at Albany (SUNY Albany), where he proudly worked for over 14 years. After many years courageously battling serious health issues and cancer, he succumbed to complications from severe COVID pneumonia. Cancer may have been a huge part of his story, but it was never the thing that defined him. He faced every challenge with grit, determination and a stubborn refusal to quit. So let the record show: cancer didn’t take Big Bri. And with all the love and attitude he would expect from us, fuck cancer! 

Brian was predeceased by his beloved parents, Harry and Patricia Guynup, and his sister-in-law, Veronica Guynup.

He is survived by the love of his life and devoted Wife of 20 years, Michele Guynup. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, family, and unwavering support.

Brian is also survived by his siblings: Kenneth Guynup; Cyndi (Donald) Marsh; Jeffrey (Rose) Guynup; and his baby sister, Patricia (Craig) Mitchell.

He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children: Sean (Amanda) Guynup, Brittany (Nick) Hale, Tyler (Diana) Carusone, Gage Haga, Sierra Haga, Liam (Tori) Mahar, Meghan (Nick) Collins, Hannah (Savina) Guynup, and the many others he proudly loved and guided as his own.

Brian was a proud grandfather to Dainn (Sam) Cooper, Cameron Mahar, Elliana Collins, Colin Guynup, and Nicholas Collins. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy and were among his greatest blessings.

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Michael (Elizabeth) Scott and Gregory (Alesha) Scott; numerous nieces and nephews; his lifelong friends and brothers by choice, Walter Sevrie and Jay Wingfield.

Known affectionately as “Big Bri,” Brian was larger than life in every sense. He was a fierce protector, a trusted mentor, and a steady presence for anyone fortunate enough to know him. Family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers knew they could count on Brian for guidance, encouragement, and support. He had a gift for making people feel safe, valued, and understood. His strength was matched only by his compassion, and his impact on those around him will be felt for generations.

Brian had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and found freedom, peace, and camaraderie on the open road. Whether riding with friends or sharing stories of his adventures, motorcycles were more than a hobby—they were part of who he was. The friendships he built through the riding community were among the many relationships he cherished deeply.

Above all else, Brian’s greatest pride was his family. He loved fiercely, and protected wholeheartedly. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the love he leaves behind.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Brian’s strength, wisdom, and spirit will continue to guide us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The funeral service for Brian will be held on Thursday morning at 10 AM at The Wm Leahy Funeral Home 336 Third St Troy
