Bryant Stevens Obituary

Bryant Dale Stevens was born in Auburn Memorial Hospital, Auburn, NY on 2/7/1958. At that time there was a serious snowstorm and his father couldn’t see him for a week. Which was probably an indication of future things to come. He Grew up on the family farm in Red Creek New York and was a 1976 graduate of Red Creek Central School. Bryant continued his studies at Monroe Community College receiving an associates degree in fire protection technology. Upon graduation he began employment with the New York State division of Fire Prevention and Control, which later became the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. He rose through the ranks beginning as an inspector, and then an instructor and through supervisory ranks finally heading the office of fire prevention and control as the New York State fire administrator retiring in 2017. During this time he was involved in the fire protection aspects of several significant events, including Woodstock concerts in Saugerties and Rome, the world university games in Buffalo and fire safety upgrades at Saratoga race track. He also responded to numerous emergency events including North country ice storms, super storm Sandy, hurricanes Irene and Lee, hurricane gloria and the 911 attacks on the world trade center and others. He was also a 20 plus year member of the Colonie Fire Company, serving as its Chief in the 1990’s.

He also had a love for motorcycles, and for a period of time taught the motorcycle safety class for beginners at HVCC introducing motorcycling to hundreds of students. While these were his passions his one true love was his wife Tina. They enjoyed many things together, including motorcycling, jogging in the morning before work and meeting for lunches during their work day, going to the movies, vacations, quick weekend trips to Maine, building their home together, watching their grandchildren grow and generally spending time with each other.

Bryant was diagnosed in 2009 with multiple sclerosis and while his physical health deteriorated, Bryant’s love for his wife Tina and her devotion and love to him never wavered. He was blessed to have the love and support from his step children, Valerie(Dave Wilson), Patrick Sullivan, who stood by his side during his entire illness.

Bryant was predeceased by his father, Frank Dale and his brother Richard. He is survived by his son Michael(Jenn), Mother Vivian, his sister Debby(Richard) Mayou, sister in law Darlene Stevens, his sister Sally(Terry)Parks.

He leaves behind his beautiful Grandchildren Alyna, Francesca, Aubrey and Josephine, several nieces and nephews.
