C. Al West, 87, of Troy, N.Y. Peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday July 22, 2023 at his home in North Greenbush surrounded by his loving family. Born in Dexter, N.Y. He was the son of the late William M. and Mildred Nelson West, and was predeceased by his wife, Faye Woodford West. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer and receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
Al retired in 1979 from the Troy Fire Department, as Captain, he was also a licensed electrician and later retired from the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y.
He was a member of American Legion, NRA, and Troy Retired Firefighters Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, skiing, camping, biking and hiking, especially in the Rockies. Al and Faye loved spending winters in Fort Pierce, Florida. He enjoyed having dinners and happy hours with family and friends. Survivors include his sister Mary E. West. His children: Chris Files, Lisa (Michael) Wheeler, David (Jennifer) West, Darcy (John) Chorwat all of Troy, NY. Daughter in-law Cheryl A. West. Grandchildren: Kyle Wheeler, Morgan O’Brien, Mark, Christopher, Trevor, Nicholas, Matthew, Joseph and Samantha West, John and Michael Chorwat. Great Grandchildren: Jayden, Bailey, Riley, Grayson, Abigail and Jameson West, Eamon and Josie O’Brien. He was predeceased by: Son, Darin A. West, Siblings, Jacqueline Kearns-Cooney, Joseph, William, Robert, John, Charles, Barbara West. Jean Baldwin, and Nancy Perrotta. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his beloved pet Oreo.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 9 – 11 am at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St. Troy. Funeral services will begin at 11 am with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating, Interment will follow in Bloomingrove Cemetery.
