Charles Howard Horton, Jr., 92, of Troy passed away June 17, 2025 with his daughters by his side.
Chuck was born on May 26, 1933 in Averill Park son of the late Charles H. and Bertha Faller Horton Sr.. Throughout the years, he would be known as Dad, Grampi, Moose and, by his wife of 57 years the Late Geraldine Rochminski, Charming Charlie.
In 1951, at age 17, he joined the United States Marine Corp and fought front line combat during the Korean War. He engaged in four separate combat campaigns in the war, was awarded the United Nations Service Medal for his service in international peace keeping, the Naval Occupational Service Medal for his service in occupied territories in Europe and the National Defense Service Medal for serving honorably.
In 1957, he and Geraldine (Gerry) Rochminski married. They raised three daughters, Charlette Burgess, Barbara Horton and Carrie Novak (deceased).
Chuck and Gerry made many lifelong friends during the years they ran the Harrison Bar and Grill in South Troy. It was a place to gather, share stories, laugh and relax with family and friends.
Some of Dad’s favorite times were family vacations, many of which would be last-minute surprises. Later in life, when it was just Dad and Mom again, he continued this tradition by picking Mom up from work, and always to her surprise, with bags packed and off they would go.
He is survived by his daughters; Charlette Burges and Barbara Horton, Grandchildren; Craig (Jen) Horton, Brenton and Matt Novak, Brian, Brittany and Brad Burgess, Great grandchildren; Isabella Novak, Joshua Kachidurian, Calli Novak, Phoebe Horton, Charlie Horton, Maddie Barreto and Teagan Novak. He was predeceased by his daughter Carrie Novak and siblings; Alfred, Bernard and Bernice Horton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Our Dad (Grampi) will be sadly missed, fondly remembered and forever in our hearts.
