Dawn Merola Obituary

Dawn E. Merola, 73, of Troy, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Dawn was born in Troy and was the daughter of the late Robert and Marion Bevevino Liberty; and loving wife of John L. Merola of Troy.
Dawn attended St. Mary's School in Troy and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School Class of 1968. Dawn had most recently been employed at The Van Rensselaer Manor as a unit clerk before moving into retirement in 2020.
Dawn was the heart and soul of her family, the life of every party, and truly the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her heart would swell with pride when speaking of her children and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than making others smile and laugh. People fell in love with her the moment they met her after listening to her stories and jokes and hearing her laugh. She showed her love and generosity through her cooking, baking, knitting, and many other acts of kindness to family and strangers alike. Dawn was a lover of Oldies music with Elvis being her favorite. She was also an avid decorator, Amazon shopper, cake baker, and gift giver. She was the light of her family and friends' lives.
In addition to her husband, John; she is survived by her loving daughters, Deanne (Michael) Schermerhorn and Debra Fera; and was the proud grandmother of Samantha and Madison Schermerhorn, Avery Fera; and her three "granddoggers." Dawn was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Dean Liberty. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Dawn's family would like to express their sincere gratitude towards the Emergency and ICU staff at Samaritan Hospital for the compassionate care they provided Dawn and her family during this very difficult time.
The funeral service for Dawn will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m., at The Bocketti Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy, and at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev.
