Dennis Cunningham

Denis Francis Cunningham, 71, of Troy, entered into eternal life on October 6th, 2022 after years of struggling with multiple physical ailments. A resident of Van Rensselaer Manor in the last days of his life, "Hambone" was born in 1951 to William Cunningham and Noreen (Ryan ) Cunningham of South Troy.

After attending St.Joseph's School and LaSalle Institute, Denis went on to receive his Associate Degree in Political Science at Hudson Valley Community College where he had the good fortune to join Kappa Sigma Kappa. The affable and outgoing spirit that he was, Denis soon became acquainted with various folks in the business world who took a liking to him and realized his potential. From working with the people at the old Country Grove Inn to working on his own in the plant distribution field, he opened, operated and sold a number of fast food outlets and sub shops along the way.

Denis' varied skills were influential in his rise up the financial ladder at an early age and thus allowed him to show his generous side which was often on display. While he enjoyed a good card game, a day at the races or an afternoon on the golf course, he took great pleasure in seeing others having fun. It was not uncommon for him, on the spur of the moment, to announce that a party was in order and he would be the sole financier.

The family would like to thank frat brothers and friends Steve, Jim, Marco, Tom, John and Frank for their actions over the last few years with a special thanks to Jen at the Manor who tended to him right up to the end. While Denis was predeceased by his loving wife, Lori Maki, and his brother William Cunningham II, survivors include his daughter Noelle Cunningham, his grandson Tristan Cunningham, sisters Kathryn Cietek, Mary (Richard) Hernick, and sister-in-law Jane Cunningham along with an array of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Denis' life on Monday, October 10th at 11:00AM at St.Joseph's Cemetery in South Troy.
