Edward Carey Obituary

Edward A. Carey, 77, of Brunswick, NY died surrounded by his loving family.  Ed was born in Troy, NY in 1947 to Edward P. Carey and Catherine Hennessy.  He grew up in Wynantskill and attended Catholic Central High School, Class of ‘65. Ed started working at Niagara Mohawk at age 19 and worked there for 47 years.

Ed was preceded in death by infant daughter Barbara, son Edward (Rosa) and siblings Judith, Daniel, and Catherine. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Barbara, son Daniel (Kim) and daughter Jaclyn (Tony), his grandchildren Cole, Amber, Marissa, Alexandra, Michael, great-granddaughter Nevaeh and step-grandchildren Brandon, Alex and Emily, brother, Michael (Nancy) Carey, sister, Ellen (Frank) Hartnagle, brothers in law, Brother Placid OSB, Richard Gaunay and his sister in law, Patricia (Bob) Behan and several nieces and nephews.

Ed lived for his family and in retirement he spent most of his time caring for his grandchildren who he adored.  He and his wife, Barbara, loved each other very much and found much joy in taking care of their family. Ed received a heart transplant more than 28 years ago and is one of the longest living recipients because of his attitude and the great care his wife took of him.

Thank you to all the nurses and doctors who took care of Ed including Dr. Ronald Hoenzsch and his son-in-law Dr. Anthony Santilli.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart Transplant Program, 55 Fruit Street Boston, MA 02144.

The funeral for Ed will be held on Saturday morning at St. Michael The Archangel Church on Williams Road Troy at 11am where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may meet with Ed’s family from 9am until 11am at the church.
