Eugene “Eug” Dennis Minton Jr. has passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2022 in his home in
Rensselaer, NY at the age of 53. He is survived by his son, Alexander Minton; his mother, Patricia
O’Rourke; his father, Eugene Minton Sr.; his 2 brothers, Ryan and Daniel Minton and his longtime
partner, Nacasta Beckwith.
Eugene was born on December 2, 1968 in Naugatuck, CT to Eugene Minton Sr. and Patricia McCartney.
He graduated from Troy High School in 1987 and received a BA in Criminal Justice from the State
University of New York at Albany in 1997. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airborne
Communications Systems Operator from 1988 to his honorable discharge in 1993. In 2004, he started
working for New York State and continued his employment there for the next nearly 20 years. Fourteen
of those years were at the Department of Education, where he was thought highly of and well-regarded
by his coworkers.
He was immensely proud of his service to his country and fondly recalled his days traveling the globe in
the service. Eugene was an avid sports fan, particularly baseball, football and hockey, with the New York
Yankees being his lifelong favorite team. As well as always catching the games on tv, he loved old
westerns and sitcoms from when he was a child particularly M*A*S*H. He had a kind heart and cared
deeply for all animals and especially loved the company of his cats, Mazy and BooBoo.
The funeral service for Eugene will be held at 10am on Friday August 5, 2022 at the WM Leahy Funeral
Home at 336 Third St. Troy, NY with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating. Relatives and friends are invited
to attend and may call at the funeral home Friday from 8:30am until 10am. Interment with full military
honors will be held at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville
NY at 12pm. A reception will be held immediately following the interment at Ryan’s Wake, 403 River St.
Troy, NY to celebrate Eugene’s life and memory. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Eugene
to either the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or the Veteran’s Miracle Center.
