Gerald “Jerry” E. Jackson 78, of Troy passed away peacefully on July 26th, 2025. Born in Troy, NY he was the son of the late Albert and Henrietta (Ambrose) Jackson, and the husband of the late Deborah A. (Mitchell) Jackson.
Jerry retired from United Parcel Service in 2006 after more than 28 years of service. He started as a package delivery driver and later earned a Commercial Driver’s License to drive tractor trailers. After retirement, Jerry volunteered with the American Red Cross in several different roles. His service to the community was always important to him. Whether he was supporting the Civil Air Patrol as a teenager, rebuilding a local little-league field, monitoring the airwaves for the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, or flying across the country to help a community respond to a flood, he was always there to help.
Jerry will be remembered by his children Jodie (Robert) Jackson-Guynup, Jarred (Cherie) Jackson, and Jennifer (Toby) Hernandez. He was the proud Grandad of Jessika (Chris), Nathan, Victoria, Danika, Chase, Evan, and Ivy and great Grandad of Elaena and Emma. Also survived by his brother Albert Jackson Jr. and niece Karen, brother in-law Jay (Cheryl) Mitchell and his nieces Nicole (Mike) and Sara.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday July 31st at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 Third St. Troy. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call from 9 am – 11 am prior to the service. Jerry’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Ann’s Care Center in Webster NY as well as the caregivers that supported him at home.
