James J. Killeen ,91 of Troy, passed away peacefully on his
Birthday, May 5,2023.
Born in Troy, he was the son of Martin and Winifred Walsh
Killeen. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s of Troy, and Catholic Central
High School.
James lost his wife, Eileen Masher Killeen, of 72 years on March
29 2023. He was Eileen’s primary care giver for the last several years,
taking care of her with such love and devotion. It’s clear to all of his
family he felt his job here on earth was complete and decided a
birthday reunion with his love would be appropriate.
James served his country in Korea 1952-54, a Sergeant in the 204 th
Field Artillery Battalion. James received numerous medals and
recognitions for his time served. Upon completing his service James
went on to a thirty plus year career with General Electric, Silicone
Division, in Waterford as the Manager of Shipping and Receiving. Upon
retirement several colleagues started a new business, Specialty
Silicones, and hired him where he spent several more years.
James was heavily involved in all of his children’s activities
including serving as President of Spring Little League for several years.
Ever the family man James and Eileen had a reputation of never missing
a family event. Seen at concerts, sporting events, plays and
graduations they were both well known locally to so many.
James can best be described as a gentleman in the truest sense.
Called by many as one of the kindest, decent, caring people you’ll ever
meet. James was also the family comedian and poet. He never met a
child he couldn’t make smile and he wrote some of the most beautiful
poems in his greeting cards. He touched so many lives with his love and
positivity and you were a better person just being around him.
James was the husband of 72 years to his late wife Eileen Masher
Killeen, the loving Father of Anne (Frank) Matthews and Ed (Kathy
Mazur) Killeen; Pop to Ryan (Alyssa) Matthews, Jaimie (Dave) Francis,
Katelynn Eileen (Rebekah) Killeen-Barton, and James Killeen; “Great”
Pop to Emerson, and Elliot Matthews and Emilia and Matthew Francis.
James is also survived by his younger sister Theresa Killeen Bonpane.
James was predeceased by his father Martin Killeen; mother Winnifred
Killeen and his siblings, Jack Killeen, Joe Killeen, Mary Killeen Danahy,
Anne Killeen Gavin, and Tom Killeen.
