Kandy Loraine (Stiefel) Mannix, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and dedicated
Corrections Officer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 55.
Born on September 2, 1970, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Kandy was raised in Troy, New York.
Growing up, she enjoyed roller skating, dancing, and fishing, often with her siblings, John and
Ollie. She was a graduate of Troy High School and started working at the Vanilla Bean Bakery.
Kandy was deeply influenced by her role models, Debby and Buster Alberino.
In 2003, Kandy began her career in corrections, starting at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s
Office and spending most of her career at the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. She loved her
career, and her colleagues became family. Kandy cherished fishing with her husband, Ken,
caring for her cats, and spending time with family and friends.
Kandy is predeceased by her mother, Olive E. Vanier, and her father, John C. Stiefel Sr.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Czyz; her children, Mark Apisa, Britney
Mannix, Courtney Mannix, and Lara Mannix; her siblings, Olive E. Martinez and John C.
Stiefel; her four grandchildren, Iris, Nydia, Kiara, and Carlo III; and her nephews, Mark
Goldston and Jeremy Stiefel.
Funeral Services
Calling hours for Kandy will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, 11 am – 2
at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, located in Troy, New York.
