Kathy, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend of Watervliet, NY. passed away after a brief illness at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY on Monday March 09, 2026, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
She was born in Troy to Wanda (Rushford) Lutz and John McCarthy. Kathy attended Troy Schools before beginning her 40-year career as a Permit Specialist for various over dimensional permitting organizations. For the last 8 years Kathy has been with WCS Permits & Pilot Cars. Kathy spoke highly of all her colleagues and customers and they of her.
Kathy was a devoted mother to Michele (Jim) Jeffs, Michael (Jamie) Mamone, Mark Mamone, and bonus daughter Kim (Brandon) Ogden. Adoring grandmother to Gavin and Gillian Jeffs, Teaghan and Ryleigh Ogden, and Janessa Szczepanik. Her children and grandbabies were her pride and joy. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Kathy enjoyed reading, all comedy shows, and cooking for her loved ones. She took special joy in the stories, adventures, and accomplishments her grandbabies provided. There was nothing she loved more than having a conversation with one of them, especially as they grew older and could give their parents a hard time. It was payback she always said. To say she was proud would be an understatement.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother Wanda Lutz, mother-in-law Nancy (Davidian) Mamone, former spouseMichael Mamone, brothers Keith McCarthy and Joe Mamone, and all of her fur babies. In addition to her children and grandchildren Kathy is survived by her siblings Darlene (George) Plunkett, Louella, Michael, and George McCarthy, Michele (Tina) Mamone-Zillgitt, Nicholas, Francis, and David (Kerrie) Mamone, her goddaughter Lisa (Mike) Layman, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Kathy was so loved and everyone was by her side at the time of her passing.
We will forever cherish all the great times together, the memory of her laughter and the booming sound it carried throughout the entire house. We will never forget the love she brought to our lives; she did not have much to give but she always gave her all. Even in passing, Kathy was such a loving person, choosing to help others through organ donation.
