Kevin Murtagh Obituary

East Greenbush, NY - Kevin Patrick Murtagh, beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and
friend to many, crossed over peacefully in his home on February 15 th , 2024 in the loving circle of
his wife, Colleen McNulty Murtagh and children Liam, Lauren, and Brendan Murtagh after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Kevin was born on December 6, 1972 in Troy, NY to parents Margaret Spain Murtagh and
Gerald T Murtagh. He is predeceased by two infant brothers Mark Anthony Murtagh and
Joseph Paul Murtagh, as well as his parents.
Kevin had many different accomplishments throughout life, but was most proud of his
“brotherhood” in the IBEW local 236 and his role as “Dad”. Kevin loved his children most of all.
With his stunning blue eyes and a heart as big as Ireland, if you were lucky enough to be loved
by Kevin then you know that he had your back and would “do anything” for you. He was proud
of his South Troy upbringing, Irish heritage, and his love for all music (especially Black Sabbath).
Left to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy are his wife Colleen McNulty Murtagh, sons
Liam Murtagh and Brendan Murtagh, and daughter Lauren Murtagh (Jeffrey Bransky, Jr.). Kevin
will be sorrily missed by his siblings Danny Murtagh (Liane Terrio Murtagh), Jerry Murtagh
(Laura Krassner Murtagh), Noreen Mahoney (Mike Mahoney), Michael Murtagh (Donnie
Reznek) and Coleen Murtagh Paratore (Columbus Buish, Sr). He will also be missed by his
mother and father “in love” Jack and Marge McNulty, his brother “in love” Bill McNulty, and
sisters “in love” Kelly McNulty Cummings and Kate McNulty Cruikshank (James Cruikshank).
Uncle Kevin will be truly missed by his nephews and nieces Ryan (Jacqueline) Mahoney, Jack
Mahoney, Chris (Melissa) Murtagh Paratore, Connor (Pantira) Murtagh Paratore, Dylan (Ying)
Murtagh Paratore, Daniel (Cadence) Cruikshank, Leah Cruikshank, Lucas Cruikshank, Will
Cummings, and Caitie Cummings. Kevin was also blessed with three grand nephews Oscar,
Enzo, and Emmett - and soon to be born earthside baby Luna. Kevin had too many “best
friends” to name you all, but the South Troy brotherhood/sisterhood is strong and he loved you
all so very much.
A graduate of Troy High School and IBEW Local 236, Kevin was currently employed at Upstate
Electric and loved his career. In addition to the light Kevin brought to many homes and
companies during his time as a Journeyman/Wireman, Kevin brought true light, love and
laughter to all who were blessed and lucky to have known him.
The funeral service for Kevin will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:45 am at the Wm Leahy
Funeral Home 336 Third St Troy and at 9:30 am at St Joseph’s Church in Troy where a mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at
the funeral home Monday from 2-6 pm. Interment St Peter’s Cemetery Troy.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Joseph’s House in Troy, NY or the local food
pantry of your choice.

Colleen, Liam, Lauren, and Brendan would like to extend their sincere thank you to all the
healthcare personnel that cared for Kevin, over the past 6 years, during his courageous battle
with cancer. The special people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Saint Peter’s Health
Partners, and the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County are deeply appreciated.
