Linda A. King (Risley), age 79, of Troy, New York, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born and raised in Troy, daughter of the late Joseph M. Risley and Katherine Higgins, Linda was a proud and lifelong resident of Troy who held a deep love for her community. She was known for her hardworking spirit and her kind, generous, and thoughtful heart. Linda dedicated much of her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally.
She spent the majority of her career as a nurse’s aide, where her compassion and dedication made a lasting impact on those she cared for. Even after retirement, Linda continued to give back, devoting her time to supporting the elderly. She was a strong advocate on their behalf and volunteered at the Troy Senior Center, where she organized trips and events for others to enjoy. In recognition of her unwavering commitment, she received an award honoring her dedication to the community.
Before her illness with Alzheimer’s, Linda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing Bingo and cards with friends, sharing laughter and connection. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved oldest grandson, Andrew Rogers, who held a special place in her heart.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Tracy L. Shafir (King, Rogers), Lisa (Greene) Cusack, and her two chosen daughters, Linda (LeClair) Washington and Elsa (Gagnon) Vandenburgh. Also survived by her niece, Angela Herrington and predeceased by her younger sister, Donna Herrington. Linda has many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will carry her love forward.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing and The Community Hospice of Rensselaer for their compassionate care and support.
Friends are invited to join Linda’s family on Friday, May 29, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third Street, Troy, New York, to share memories and celebrate her life.
