Ronald Hipwell, passed away at Albany Medical Center on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Troy, he was a graduate of Troy High School. Upon graduation he was employed by Behr-Manning and spent his long career on the D&H Railroad. He later worked for Samaritan Hospital and Eddy DayBreak in Troy. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Troy where he was an active member of the DAD’s Club. Ron was a longtime coach for South Troy Little League.
Ron is survived by his daughter Kelly Hoffman and her husband Tom of Wynantskill and his son Michael Hipwell and his wife Linda of Speigletown. Ron was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Patricia Cronin Hipwell. He was the loving grandfather to Hannah Hoffman and Raymond Hoffman, Jason Davin (Kathy), Nicole Davin and Rachel Hipwell (Bobby). Great-grandfather to Ethan and Aubrey Covert and Nadia, Zara and Asaad Javaid. Brother in law to Chris Degnan (Tim). Ron is also survived by his friend, Sandi Stewart, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ron had a passion for gardening and enjoyed his summer vacations camping. Thank you to the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor who cared for him. At Ron’s request, the services will be private.
