Thomas McGaughnea, Sr. Obituary

Thomas J. McGaughnea Sr., 89, of Troy passed into eternal rest on
Wednesday, March 26, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born in
Troy he was the son of the late Edward and H. Anna Mooney
McGaughnea and loving husband for 59 years to Sally O’Neil
McGaughnea who passed away in 2013.  
Thomas graduated from St. Joseph’s School and LaSalle Institute both in
Troy Class of 1953 where he played various sports.  He retired from the
former Norton Company in Watervliet after 35 years of service.  After
retirement, he was a co-owner of Main Limousine for 15 years.
 Thomas was an avid sports fan especially the Notre Dame Football and
was a season ticket holder for 25 years along with his wife to the New
England Patriots.  He attended numerous Super Bowls, college football
and basketball games. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his hunting
camp with his son, grandson, and hunting partners.  He enjoyed
traveling with his son on many hunting adventures. He also enjoyed
traveling and had visited many places throughout the U.S.A. as
well as Ireland, Hawaii and Aruba and many cruises. He also played many
years in the over 30 softball and basketball leagues. 
Thomas is survived by his children Donna Ned, Teresa McGaughnea,
Thomas McGaughnea Jr, Kathleen Manzari and Ann (Andrew) Marro. 
He is also survived by his brother John J. “Jack” (Susan) McGaughnea
and is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin Ned, Kristen Ned,
Brittany McGaughnea (Matt), Sarah McGaughnea Lauster (Randall),
Thomas J. McGaughnea III, Katrina Manzari, Michael Manzari and Mary
Marro.  His great-grandchildren, Harper, Jaxin, Layla, Winter and Wolf.
 Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by
his siblings, Rita, Rosemary, and Edward McGaughnea and Mary Margaret
(Mickey) Frisbee. Also predeceased by his son-in-law Manny   

 
  Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday afternoon from
1-5 pm at The Wm. Leahy Funeral home 336 Third St Troy and at 9:30
am at St. Joseph’s Church, Troy where a mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Troy.
