Thomas Romano, 67, of Troy, New York, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2026. Born on April 18, 1958, in Troy, Thomas lived a life rooted in family, faith, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors and sports.
A proud graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, Thomas earned an associate degree that supported him throughout his working years. But it was outside the classroom where he truly came alive—whether in the boxing ring during his youth or later while camping under the stars, casting a line into quiet waters, or riding his motorcycle down open roads. His love for sports endured throughout his life; he was not only a passionate fan but also a semi-professional boxer in his younger days.
Thomas was a man of strong faith—a born-again Christian who found strength and purpose through his belief in Christ. That faith guided him through life’s joys and challenges and was evident in the way he loved those around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Stevens; his former wife Marie Mayfield; and his children: Dominick Romano and daughter-in-law Rachel; Sarah Romano; Nicole Gendron and son-in-law Wayne. He was a proud grandfather to Logan, Amiyah, Sedyuh, Malahki,Juliana, Jacob, and Lucas. He also embraced his extended family with open arms: stepdaughter Rachel Sorano and her husband Andrew along with their children Rylie and Lincoln; and stepson Niles Stevens.
Thomas is also remembered by his siblings: Donnie Romano and sister-in-law Mimi; Jeff Romano and Theresa; James Romano and girlfriend Laura; Richard Hunt and girlfriend Jean; and sister Kathy Elden with her husband Paul.
He was predeceased by his father Donald Romano Sr., beloved wife Barbara, birth mother Dorthy Hunt, sister Barb and his infant daughter Stacia.
Thomas’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—especially those of his grandchildren whom he cherished deeply. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sharing stories around a campfire, he brought warmth and energy to every moment spent with them.
May Tom’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. The funeral service for him will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 12PM at The Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 Third St Troy
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 AM until 12 PM
