Tina Demczar, 94, passed away August 26 at home. She was born in Poltava, Ukraine and daughter of the late Kindrat and Maria Rostowski . She was predeceased and beloved wife of Michael Demczar, her husband of 30 years.
In May 1949, after WWII, Tina and her parents came by boat to America through Ellis Island with nothing more than the clothes on their backs to enjoy freedom and with hopes and dreams for a better life outside of their beloved homeland. She met her husband and got married in 1956 and they became naturalized citizens. Through much hard work , she and Michael raised their family in North Greenbush. She was a seamstress at Marshall Ray sewing men's suits. She later was seamstress at the Van Rensselaer Manor and retired from there in 1990. She was a communicant of St Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy, NY. She loved to cook and entertain family. Food was love. There were many wonderful family celebrations at her house especially at Easter and Christmas.
Tina is survived by her son John Demczar and daughter Maria (Joseph) Kruczlnicki. She is beloved grandmother of Danielle (Michael) Majkut, Courtney (John) Schiermeyer, Kristen (Jeffrey) Gluck, and Michael (Sara) Kruczlnicki. She is beloved baba for Brenden, Cayden, Sophia, Grier, Kensington, and Calvin. Funeral is Friday at 9am from Wm. Leahy Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at St Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Troy, NY. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery Watervliet, NY
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4 to 7pm with Parastas at 6pm.
