William Bybel

William J. Bybel , 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 29, 2024 at Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Bill was born September 3, 1942, in Troy where he lived his entire life. He graduated in 1960 from La Salle Institute for boys. He’ll tell you it was the last year from the “original La Salle” before moving to its current location.  He worked at Montgomery Wards in Menands, for a couple of years before working at RTA.  Bill worked at RTA as a warehouse manager for over 40 years.

“Bybs” as he was known by most of his friends, was big in the Polka scene.  His quick-wit and good nature landed him plenty of friends and stories. He loved traveling the states for different Polish events, promoting and booking new polish bands. This was his love, it was in his blood. He quickly became a permanent fixture at the PAC of Troy, where he and Ruthie ran the kitchen for various events.

William was predeceased by both his parents, William Bybel and Anna Federsky, as well as his cousin Patricia (Lionel Rogers Jr). He is survived by cousins Scott Rogers and Kelly (Charles) Honikel and their families.

The funeral services for Bill will be held on Tuesday evening July 9th at 6pm at the Wm Leahy Funeral Home 336 Third St Troy with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating.  Relative and Friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-7 pm.  Interment will take place on Wednesday morning July 10th at 11am St Agnes Cemetery Menands NY.

We would like to thank the nursing staffs at both Samaritan Hospital and Albany Medical Center, for their compassion and respect that was shown the entire time.
