William R. French Sr.,81, of Troy passed into eternal rest on Monday
morning at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in
Troy on May 19th , 1942 and was the son of the late Edward T. and Mildred
(Mambert) French and is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Susan
(Hanecak) French of Troy.
Bill was the very well respected owner of The East Side Roofing Company
for over 50 years. In his earlier days he was a Golden Glove Champion 3
years in a row and taught boxing at the YMCA for many years. He was a
bouncer at bars on the strip in Troy and loved to play cards, as well as fish
in the Adirondacks. Though the passion of Bill’s life was his family and
spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandson Mason.
In addition to his wife Susan, Bill is survived by his children William R.
French Jr. (Michele) of Wynantskill, Kelly Owens (Bob) of Wynantskill,
Daniel French (Mary) of Troy and Sandee Saurman (Tim) of Idaho. He is also
survived by his grandchildren Dane, Sierra, Alyssa, Anabella ,Karly, Serafina,
Nikki, Brody, Tanner and his sister Joan Furciniti. He was predeceased by his
brothers Sonny, Tom and Dickie French and his sister Nancy Burns.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend at The Wm. Leahy Funeral Home
at 336 Third St. on Thursday, May 9th , 2024 from 2-7 PM. The funeral and
burial service will be held Friday, May 10th , 2024 morning at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Troy Youth Association,
Inc. and Troy CYO Center.
Bill will be buried in the Interment Evergreen Cemetery in Wynantskill, NY.
